Upon graduation from the University of Colorado, Boulder, in 1982, Brigadier General Jeffrey N. Colt earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics and was commissioned in the United States Army as a Second Lieutenant, in the Infantry Branch.
Following Infantry Officer Basic training at Fort Benning, GA, BG Colt completed the Army Initial Entry Rotary Wing Qualification Course and later the Aviation Officer Advanced Course.
BG Colt has commanded at the company, troop, squadron, battalion, and brigade levels, including the 1st Squadron, 17th Cavalry at Fort Bragg, NC; 1st Battalion, 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment at Fort Campbell KY and the 159th Combat Aviation Brigade; his current assignment is as the Deputy Commanding General (Support) for the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault).
In addition to his command assignments, BG Colt also served as the Assistant Deputy Director, Strategy and Policy Branch, J-5, The Joint Staff, Washington, D.C. and as the Director, Joint Unmanned Aircraft Systems Center of Excellence at Creech Air Force Base, Nevada.
A 1995 graduate of the Army Command and General Staff College and 2005 graduate of the National War College, BG Colt also holds a Master of Arts degree from Webster University in Management and an Master of Arts degree from the National War College in National Security Affairs.
He has deployed in support of combat and hazardous duty operations including Prime Chance (Persian Gulf 1987/88), Just Cause (Panama 1989), Restore Hope (Somalia 1992/93), Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan) and Iraqi Freedom (Iraq).
His awards include the Distinguished Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal with “V” Device, and Army Commendation Medal.
BG Colt is married and has two children. This is his fifth assignment to Fort Campbell.
