Unit History
The 63rd Chemical Company was first constituted on 1 October 1933 in the Regular Army as the 3d Chemical Company. On 12 March 1942 the unit was redesignated as the 63rd Chemical Depot Company and shortly after participated in the historic "Louisiana Maneuvers."
The Company deployed to World War II and participated in the invasion of Sicily and the subsequent Italian Campaign. After the fall of Italy, the Company moved onto Southern France and the Central European Campaign. Following the allied victory in Europe, the Company was inactivated on 13 October 1945.
The unit was reactivated as the 63d Chemical Base Depot and Maintenance Company on 19 February 1947 and operated with U.S. Forces in Europe (based in Germany). The unit was again redesignated on 27 April 1951 as the 63rd Chemical Service Company and again inactivated 1 November 1954 in France.
On 1 March 1980 the unit was reactivated as the 63rd Chemical Company, and assigned to the 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. The 63d Chemical Company accompanied the 101st Airborne Division when it was deployed first to Saudi Arabia and then to Kuwait and Iraq during Operation Desert Storm.
In September of 1990 63rd Chemical Company deployed in support of Desert Storm/Shield.
The Company was deployed with the 101st Airborne Division in 2003 as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom. The Company conducted a chemical hazard mitigation and terrain decontamination of the more than 11,000 gallons of assorted chemicals that were deliberately poured on the ground and the streets of a neighborhood in Mosul, Iraq.
In February of 2008, 63rd Chemical Company deployed once again, this time to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom 08-09. 63rd Chemical Company performed a Convoy Security mission in support of TF Currahee and TF Duke while being attached to 101st Sustainment Brigade, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault).
The Dragonmasters redeployed in February 2009 and are now in the process of transforming from a Dual Purpose (Smoke/Decon) Company to a Combat Support Chemical Company.
