Command Sergeant Major, Fort Campbell Garrison


CSM Gabriel A. Espinosa Jr.Command Sergeant Major Gabriel A. Espinosa Jr. entered the Army in January of 1988 and attended Basic and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.

Command Sergeant Major Espinosa has held every leadership position in a Field Artillery Battalion from Section Chief to Command Sergeant Major. He also held the position of Intelligence Officer at the battalion level. His past assignments include Recruiter at Brooklyn, New York, and Observer Controller at the Joint Readiness Training Center at Fort Polk, Louisiana.  He served as First Sergeant for B Battery, 2nd Battalion, 319th Airborne Field Artillery Regiment and HSB 2-319 AFAR; Rear-Detachment Command Sergeant Major for 2nd Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division “The Falcon Brigade”; the Senior Military Science Instructor for Furman University “The Paladin Battalion”; Operations Sergeant Major for 214th Fires Brigade; and the Battalion Command Sergeant Major for 1st Battalion, 5th Field Artillery. From December 2013 to March 2014 he served as the Brigade Command Sergeant Major for 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division.

Command Sergeant Major Espinosa’s career has taken him to assignments in Korea; the New York City Recruiting Command; and the 25th Infantry Division at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. He served as First Sergeant for B Battery 2-319 AFAR during Operation Iraqi Freedom I, and as Command Sergeant Major of 1-5 FA during Operation New Dawn in Iraq.

Command Sergeant Major Espinosa’s awards include the Bronze Star (with 1 OLC), Meritorious Service Medal (with 4 OLC), Army Commendation Medal ( with 5 OLC), Army Achievement Medal (with 9 OLC), Good Conduct Medal (8), Overseas Service Ribbon (3), National Defense Service Ribbon, Iraq Campaign Medal (3 Stars), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, the Combat Action Badge, Master Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, Recruiter Badge, Drivers Badge, Australian Parachutist Badge, and the German Parachutist Badge. He is a member of the Honorable Order of Saint Barbara and Honorable order of Saint Maurice. 

Command Sergeant Major Espinosa has attended the Army Force Management Course, Battalion and Brigade Pre-Command Course, First Sergeant Course, Jumpmaster School, Air Assault School, Primary Leadership Development Course, Basic Noncommissioned Officer Course, Advanced Noncommissioned Officer Course, and the Recruiter Course. He is a graduate of the 36th nonresident Sergeant’s Major Course. He holds a Bachelors Degree in Public Administration from Upper Iowa University and a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Touro University International.

Command Sergeant Major Espinosa is married to Vanessa and has a son, Miguel.
